Marcus attended Marion Local School throughout his elementary, junior, and high school years, playing football, basketball, and baseball. He graduated in 2007 and then continued his football career at Wilmington College, where he graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy. From 2007 to 2016, Marcus worked at Menke Consulting, Inc. for Tom Menke in Greenville, Ohio. After Tom retired from his soil consulting duties in 2016, he began working for his brother Kevin Otte.

In 2016, Marcus married his wife, Emily, whom he met at Wilmington College. They have four children together—one boy and three girls. Marcus is always happy to help with anything he possibly can.
