Before starting independent consulting in 1992, Joe ran a retail fertilizer dealership for 15 years. He has helped establish several other Brookside consultants, either within Nester Ag or on their own. Joe served on the Brookside Board of Directors for several years and was elected into the Hall of Fame a few years ago. His cousin, Clint Nester, is his business partner in Nester Ag.

Joe has been married to his wife, Beckie, for 29 years, and they have two sons, Brad and Brett. Brad works with them at Nester Ag. Joe enjoys fishing, hunting, and trapshooting. He and Beckie have a home in northern Michigan, which they love to visit during the winter and summer months. They look forward to more traveling in the near future. Additionally, Joe has held a real estate sales license for 42 years and has been a director with The Hicksville Bank for 18 years.
