GP grew up in Potchefstroom in the North West province of South Africa and studied plant and soil science at Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education. He spent 12 years working in a cut rose nursery before founding his own consulting firm, Agrisol, in 2010. Agrisol features a software development team focused on creating a geographical information system designed to provide the highest standard of advice to farmers. This system aids in managing the entire process from planting and sampling to final reporting and customer relationships. Soil is his passion.

GP is married to Hesme, and they have two sons, Naude and Stef. They live on the family farm, where he is the sixth generation, situated in the Vredefort Dome World Heritage Site along the banks of the Vaal River. Hesme manages the guest houses on the farm and homeschools their children. The family also manages a herd of indigenous Nguni cattle, supplying organic grass-fed meat to their local community.
