Dick Psolla

Dick Psolla grew up on a farm in Northeast Ohio, his father and their farm were among the original members of the group that eventually became Brookside Laboratories, Inc. As a young man Dick witnessed firsthand how restoring soil fertility and balancing soils improved their farm’s operation.

Crop production increased and they went from needing to buy feed for their dairy cows to enough of an excess they were able to sell feed to other farms. Their dairy herd’s health significantly improved and veterinary bills dropped by more than half. The Brookside philosophy of balance and the congruence of soil, plant, and animal nutrition resulted in positive effects and outcomes for his family’s farm, making a significant impression on Dick.

As a result, in 1959 Dick joined Brookside as a consultant along with eleven others. The challenge then was to provide a balanced soil that would produce healthy, disease resistant plants for animal and human consumption while improving production, herd health, and better soil conditions in the agricultural industry.

In 1962, after successfully providing his services to agriculture, enabling his farm clients to raise healthier animals, increasing the quality and quantity of their production, he was asked to accept the challenge to provide local golf courses with improved conditions. At that time, golf courses were under increasing pressure from more play every year and escalating demands for year-round optimal playing conditions. Chemicals were not giving the protection needed to overcome the problems created by this added pressure. The new challenge then, and still is today, growing stronger, healthier, more resilient turf.

Between 1963 and 1972, Dick worked with 35 golf courses and country clubs in northern Ohio and eastern Pennsylvania as well as assisting in the construction of 15 new courses. In 1985 his son Eric started working with him to help with the increased demand for their services. Back then they provided services for more than 20 farms and more than 80 public and private golf courses. Together they greatly expanded and the height of their business they were servicing well over 300 clients in the United States, and abroad.

By 1996 Dick and Eric became officially incorporated as REP Consulting, Inc., and they have trained many other consulting agronomists who are now serving hundreds of farms and over a thousand golf courses around the world, these include over 50 courses in the top 100. In over 60 years of service, REP Consulting has been involved in the construction of over 150 new courses, and provided services to golf courses and farms in 47 states, and 11 countries.
